Escape from the Red Hell
Heinrich Neuwirt's Harrowing Escape and His Legacy
My grandfather, Heinrich Neuwirt, penned this harrowing autobiography after his escape from the Bolshevik Revolution. His firsthand account chronicles his imprisonment, enslavement, and forced service in the Russian penal army during World War II.
My aunt transcribed his dictation of this manuscript. Sadly, my grandfather was assassinated by Russian forces, who pushed him in front of a diesel truck. His original intention was to use the proceeds from the book to immigrate to the United States.
Today, the political climate in the United States bears an unsettling resemblance to Stalinism, with figures like Steve Bannon advocating for a "Bolshevik revolution" under the guise of "Project 2025."
To honor my grandfather's legacy and support Ukraine's ongoing struggle against Russian aggression, I am releasing his manuscript in collaboration with the Blue Star Sunflower Project. As a master miller, my grandfather would have been proud to know that his work will help de-mine Ukrainian land, allowing farmers to cultivate crops and providing employment for millers and others.
Art Cycle is committed to a 50/50 split with the Sunflower Project. Every purchase of our manuscript will contribute to Ukraine's recovery, while the other half will go towards my daughter's college fund.
Reading my grandfather's manuscript has strengthened my resolve to endure the chronic pain I experience daily. His unwavering tenacity in the face of immense suffering serves as a daily inspiration.
